Wonders of the Modern DSLR
Ever wondered what happens when you press that button on your (D)SLR camera. The mirror flips up (that’s the very distinctive sound you hear; the noise on compacts or mobile phones mimics this as they have no mirrors) exposing the film/chip as a curtain moves across it at a speed you’ve (or the internal program) determined. At the same time the lens iris, which has been wide open for ease of focusing, closes to the selected ‘aperture’ setting.
This amazing video captures the process that happens in the blink of an eye.
